About Us
The Association of Legal Administrators, formed in 1971, provides support to professionals involved in the management of law firms, corporate legal departments, and government legal agencies. Today, ALA provides educational opportunities and services to more than 9,000 members in more than 20 countries and has become the primary resource on law firm management.
The Greater Kansas City Chapter was founded in November 1975 and was incorporated on July 26, 1977. Our Chapter is committed to offering high-quality educational programs, a Chapter newsletter, and extensive networking opportunities with members, vendors, and the legal community. Today more than 70 Chapter members are enhancing their professional and personal growth in the field of legal administration through the membership services and programs provided by the Greater Kansas City Chapter and ALA International.
Chapter Meetings. Monthly luncheon meetings are scheduled for the third Thursday of each month and are held at Hilton President Hotel in downtown Kansas City. These meetings provide for networking opportunities with peers as well as education enrichment, as we provide speakers on timely legal management issues.
Small Firm Administrator Meetings. Monthly luncheon small firm meetings are scheduled for the last Wednesday of each month. These meetings provide small firm administrators an opportunity to discuss issues pertinent to those who manage a small firm.
Human Resources Network Meetings. Monthly human resources meetings are scheduled for the first Tuesday of each month. These meetings provide an informal atmosphere for administrators to discuss topics such as staffing, recruiting, and benefits.
Newsletter. Our Chapter's Newsletter, published monthly, is our communication link with members and the legal community. The Newsletter provides Chapter news, as well as several timely educational articles on various aspects of law firm management.
Membership. Our Membership Committee provides membership information to potential members, facilitates enrolling new members, and welcomes new members into the organization.
Community Relations. Our Community Service Committee plans events that benefit the Great Kansas City area. Our 2006 events involved the children and families of Children's Mercy Hospital. KCALA members spent one evening making Build-a-Bears, while a second evening found members decorating Halloween pumpkins with the children. Previous events have benefitted the following organizations: The Womens' Employment Network, The YMCA, The Jackson County Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), and the Kansas City, Missouri school district. KCALA's Past Presidents also host at least one evening meal at the Ronald McDonald House each year.
KCALA strives to meet the needs of all Kansas City legal administration professionals. We want to be a resource for administrators to network, troubleshoot with colleagues, and to find innovative ideas in the dynamic field of law management. You will love getting to know other professionals that make your job easier.
Thank you for visiting our website. We encourage you to explore the many opportunities available to you through joining the Greater Kansas City Chapter and the Association of Legal Administrators.
